Custom Design

Designing or redesigning a piece of jewelry is fun, interactive and most of all, affordable. We recognize the emotional significance of something made “just for you,” and that is why we have a state-of-the-art manufacturing and design workshop on site. If you can dream it, we can design and create it.

It Begins With An Idea

It Begins With An Idea

Our custom design process begins with a consultation. We discuss your ideas and start formulating a direction. We will browse our showroom with you and use the jewelry in our cases for inspiration and visual examples. Depending on the specifics of the design, we establish the best method for creation such as a hand carved wax, computer aided design or hand fabrication. Once we have a direction established, we can discuss the precious metals, gemstones and each step of creating a beautiful piece of jewelry. We can offer a detailed sketch of the design to help with visualization.

CAD Imaging

CAD Imaging

During this phase of the process, we will show you almost exactly what your piece will look like once it's completed with our CAD (Computer-Aided Design) technology. This realistic photo rendering will give you the opportunity to adjust characteristics like the height of the diamond, the overall size, the angles of the gemstones, styling, or make adjustments to suit your taste before your design is actually created. We will work with you until we get it right. Once you approve the image, we will move into the physical creation of your piece of jewelry.

Wax Model Creation

Wax Model Creation

The physical creation of your design starts with a wax. Depending on the design, your wax will be created either by hand-carving or CAD technology modeling. Our highly skilled wax carvers use traditional modeling techniques and a wide array of tools to create the most intricate and detailed patterns. Jewelry designed in CAD technology are grown in-house on our state-of-the-art 3D printers. Working from the digital file, our 3D printers use an additive process to put down successive layers of material until the entire object is created in precise detail. Both techniques provide you with a physical model that represents the actual size, fit and appearance so you inspect and approve before the casting process begins.

Casting

Casting

Once your wax model is approved, it will be processed through our casting department. We do all casting of precious metals such as silver, gold and platinum in-house. We utilize two industry leading casting machines to achieve the best results. Both machines use an induction melting system in an oxygen free environment to produce defect free castings.

Hand Fabrication

Hand Fabrication

At times the best way to create a piece of fine jewelry is the old fashion way. In this case, our Master Craftsmen will fabricate and assemble each piece by hand. Fabrication requires the highest level of skill, craftsmanship and patience. These techniques have been passed down generation to generation and very few jewelers today possess the skills needed to create heirloom quality pieces that are truly irreplaceable.

Gemstone setting

Gemstone setting

After your piece of jewelry has been assembled and pre polished, it is time to set the gemstones. We offer the finest diamonds and colored gemstones and have the expertise in-house to ensure the gemstones are handled and set properly into your jewelry. All of gemstones are set by hand under powerful microscopes with extreme precision. Our master setters are well versed in all types of stone setting like prong, bead, bezel and channel setting to advanced techniques like pave and micro-pave setting.

Finishing Details & Polishing

Finishing Details & Polishing

The final step of the design project is the finishing and polishing details. Our highly trained finishing department uses a variety of tools and techniques to achieve a blemish free mirror-like surface on your piece of jewelry. We offer a variety of finishes and textures as well as full service hand engraving by our master engravers. Before your jewelry leaves our workshop it undergoes a series of extensive quality control inspections. Once completed, your piece of jewelry will be given the Aucoin Hart stamp and will be ready to be worn. A great work of art in every box from Aucoin Hart!
